That wraps up the chapter as well as the mini-arc. The next mini-arc’s got some… surprises for both the characters and the readers. I can’t wait to reveal them all!

PS. In the previous strip, how do you think Danbi got out of the inn room, with Ethan sleeping right in front of the door? ;D

Up + R + A Danbi High Jump?? xD

keii4iiMarch 13, 2017 @ 6:01 PMReply

A+ answer, 100000/10

(In truth, he had to first unlock the door by doing a 45 degree wall plank over Ethan. Then the high jump.)

MytheeMarch 21, 2017 @ 11:47 PMReply

That’s a lot of effort for someone who just woke up. xD Ethan, have mercy, let Danbi take the door futon next time!

I like those smiling statues. Are they a protective charm, or a boundary marker, or just for decoration?

keii4iiMarch 13, 2017 @ 5:59 PMReply

They’re a bit of everything!

AlexandreMarch 9, 2017 @ 5:13 PMReply

Double jump. Danbi is known as Two Jumps Danbi

keii4iiMarch 13, 2017 @ 5:59 PMReply

I love double jumping characters 8D

wanderingsketchpadMarch 22, 2017 @ 12:45 AMReply

that sky is so beautiful in the last panel!

keii4iiMarch 22, 2017 @ 5:50 PMReply

Thanks! I’m also fond of how the sky came out on the very next one (015-01). The sky is such a beautiful, ever-changing model.

wanderingsketchpadMarch 22, 2017 @ 9:44 PMReply

yea it really did! I love skies, they are my favorite thing in nature! also I really loved the pattern of the vines on those rocks *.* Such a nice touch <3

I’m almost a year late commenting (I’ve been re-reading HoK from the start to refresh my memory!) but one of the jangseungs in the last panel (on my left) looks to be an Elyeo, and a masculine (almost said “male” but since it’s been said they’re actually intersex..) Elyeo at that, is that right? :O And given the purpose of jangseungs, is it possibly referring to a famous, old Elyeo individual…or even a deified Elyeo? Wonder if the story will touch on this later :>

Great work by the way, Keii, HoK is one of the few webcomics I have kept up with for years!

keii4iiFebruary 3, 2018 @ 12:32 AMReply

Finally someone noticed! :O Yes, we will be seeing more about these statues as the story goes on!

Also… it made my day to read that you were re-reading the comic! It’s cool when someone reads the comic once, but re-reading the whole thing is something special. ❤︎

The one on the right looks like the Mother Queen, with that symbol under her eye. So I wonder what the connection between the two is… And what the difference in decoration means (The mother queen has ribbons and ropes around her, the Elyeo does not). We also haven’t seen seen an Elyeo with horns before, have we?
Sooo many questions, such mysteries to draw us in :P

I’m a new reader and this is how far I’ve got in the space of two days. There’s just something magical about this that hooked me within a couple of pages.
Now I need to finish catching up :P

SilverJuly 19, 2018 @ 11:34 AMReply

…wait… The horns… the masculinity… the Mother Queen’s eugenics programme… Is this what she’s trying to breed? A male Elyeo?
/endconspiracytheory

I’m probably wrong XD

keii4iiJuly 23, 2018 @ 2:23 PM

You might be onto something about that male Elyeo thing! :0

Also, aww, it warms my heart that you’d describe my story as having “something magical” ✨

kniptzijneigenhaarMarch 24, 2021 @ 4:51 PMReply

There were… three of them? (the ‘attackers/ robbers’)
One has returned alive, with a broken ankle. One has returned dead, drowned, but at least his family (his son) can grieve.
The third guy got half-eaten by the ‘imposter’ Lushaka – he didn’t leave a family behind?

keii4iiMarch 30, 2021 @ 1:37 PMReply

The implication is that the one who got eaten is not from this area. If I were writing this part in canon Korean, I might have given him a different regional accent!

elenaJune 25, 2023 @ 8:04 PMReply

Once again this comic hits me in the feels. Ethan knows what it’s like to grieve alone, and he is relieved to know that the young boy is not alone. Sort of like the same boys but in different situations.
