Oh so He’s going through some kind of Metamorphasis because of the dragon’s blood? I’m intrigued!

Keen thinking there… We will see how that pans out!

Not a ‘real’ dokabi either – he didn’t *eat/ consume* a whyrm, but it did get *in* to him…? His eye..

Anyway, I was on a partial re-read -yet another- (page 189 -where Ethan sees the ‘soul of a whyrm’ as a commentor called it-) and finally ready to voice some ideas.
I jumped to ‘latest page’ for this. Not sure exactly what came before/ after in the story-line, avoiding possible spoilers.
The ‘soul’ Ethan sees has a teardrop-tattoo under his eye. Royalty has.
The hooded-mystery-kid has. Been ‘popping up’ -not real-real- and acting as a kind of ‘guide’ to Ethan. But this ‘soul’ is clearly adult.

Our ‘gentle-giant’ has been semi-recognized -if I recall correctly, couldn’t possibly do a full re-read now, sorry- but it was dismissed, for him being too young?
His father, in flashback-PTSD-mode -hiding under a table- adressed Ethan as *his* father – not just confusing him with his grandfather, but reverting to a sort-of child-mode.
Where has ‘daddy’ been, before -finallly- returning home?
Somehow the ‘hooded kid’ is a manifestation of his fathers lingering *presence* in a world he visited before his son did, providing the ‘guideance’ he no longer could, having returned *damaged* to the real world.
This would also mean there is a way back, to the real world?

And, Danbi *will* be the king-consort (eventually) but that’s a given, to anyone with a half a brain, right?
Which would move him into a position to make/ influence some much-needed changes.
The queen finding him will *not* have to be the end-of-the-world-as-we-know-it. I hope.
Just a theory ;-)

(Now I’m imagining his eyeball being all sentient, with its own face and limbs, and going ‘nom nom nom, mmm I love me some dragon juice.’)

If the all-sentient-eye also has something akin a ‘facial’ expression we can ‘read’, I imagine it soon turning into something that spells r e g r e t ??

Don’t only think of the fantasy quest. The quest mirrors, reflects, instantiates Ethan’s internal conflicts. One cannot be resolved without the other.

Yep… I mean, he could, theoretically, resolve all the external problems without making much progress with his own personal healing. But that would be a very hollow victory for him. Meaningful yet empty at the same time.

Oh gosh, I laughed in surprise and delight when the tree started talking, and Ethan’s expressions and reaction. This is so stunningly and effectively done!

Oooh so all the soft music lilting through the air in the previous pages was the tree…? Its presence on this page gives me such a feeling of floating comfort…
