I cried A Lot while writing this chapter, and this page is one of the reasons.

What a gently heartbreaking scene.
Coming into the last panel, I find the stars here feel extra beautiful because of that…

One can only see starlight when the sky goes dark…!

Has the poison been referenced before?

It’s the dragon blood, it is explained a little earlier in this chapter.

Back in chapter 38 actually, when the eyepatch guy was talking to Ethan. The other guy also talks about a boy who slowly died from the poison as they walk toward the room with the dead dragon, and the way he talks about “among the living” implies not only those who served as Dokkabi and died later, but also those who didn’t survive the poison.

In addition, Ethan passing out in chapter 37 could very well have been caused by the poison, though that’s up for speculation!

Could Ethan be thinking of bringing his dad back here, possibly in an attempt to heal him?

He definitely is/was! (he actually asked about that on the previous page :D)

Yes, I know, but he was suggesting taking his shadow dad to his world. wasn’t he? I was suggesting he might want to bring his older dad back to the world of Keol.
The next page even hints at that, Ethan saying that he knows what to do with this power. Perhaps I’m reading to much into it.

Oh, gotcha. Man, too many dads, too confusing XD

Anyway, Ethan is making some assumption re: teleporter abilities and limitations. It’s not yet clear what his assumption is, nor what he’s intending to do. Also not clear whether his assumption is right. We shall seeeeee.

This might sound rather random:

Seeing shadow-dad’s tiny hands grabbing Ethans giant ‘paw’ –
I’m suddenly reminded of his father hiding under the table, scared (of the creepy ‘face’ on an electric socket) reverting to a little boy looking for protection from him.
Believing him to be *his* father…
