The old man is a red gater?

Yes, he’s the master arborist and one of the chief illegal dokabi. You can only become a dokabi if you are a Red Gater (or possibly direct descendant of Red Gaters?).

Can’t anyone become a dokkabi if they drink wyrm tea? It’s just that red gaters have a bit of dokkabi power inside them already.
